Journey By Train
06 August 2025
There are various modes of transport all over world. People choose this transport according to their availability and will, the purpose of their journey/trip and the destination. If their destination is far off, they travel by train.
I had to undertake a railway journey from Jammu to Banglore in order to attend the marriage of my friend in Banglore. His father was a businessman and his family was settled there. The bride’s family was also settled in that city. When I received the invitation from my beloved friend, I decided to attend the marriage of my friend without any obstacle.
Trip By Train I went to the Jammu Railway Station to get my seat/berth reserved. There was separate office for advance booking in which there were a number of computerised reservation counters. I got an application form for reservation from the Reception counter which was to be filled in by me. I found long queues in front of each counter of the long hall. Reservation can be made for any destination from any counter. I also joined a queue and waited for my turn. When it came, the official at the counter, read the details in my slip, checked the availability of the seat with the computer. When I paid the fare, the ticket was handed over to me.
The train leaves the Jammu station at night. I reached the station well before the scheduled departure time. I was carrying a suitcase and a shoulder bag. In the shoulder bag I had stuffed things which I would require in the train. There were clothes for changing, towel, tooth brush, tongue cleaner, tooth paste, water-bottle, magazines, etc. As my seat number and compartment was mentioned on the ticket, I could easily locate my seat. Other passengers were arriving in ones and twos. Most of them were accompained by their friends and relatives. My fellow passengers were teachers who were returning after attending a Seminar. They were a good company.
The train started at its scheduled time. There were much wavings and bye-byes. Slowly the train picked up speed and the city lights moved past. People were getting ready to sleep. The T.T.E. came and checked the tickets. The train rushed through the darkness. When I woke up in the morning, the train was still running. On either side lay open fields. At intervals I saw buildings and people. Tea was served in the train. Taking tooth brush and paste, passengers went to bathrooms. They were getting ready for a long day in the train.
Since it was a long distance train, there was no frequent boarding or alighting of passengers. There was a pantry car in the train. Therefore, food was served at our seats from time to time. I spent my time looking out or reading the magazines. As the train proceeded further, the landscape changed. The style of dress also became slightly different. At some stations, I noticed that the language had also become different. I like to see the new places and new people. The heat was getting oppressive and I had to drink a lot of water.
At night I slept well. Next morning the train reached Banglore. My friend was there to receive me. Though I was exhausted and uncomfortable with a thin layer of dried sweat and dust, I was happy.
I enjoyed this train journey very much. It was a nice experience to see new places and new people. Hoe you people will one day enjoy by train trip.
