But here we are going to tell about that India, A large majority of the country’s population still lives in villages and their chief vocation is depend on agriculture. In fact, our economy is based on agriculture and the villages constitute the backbone of this economy.

Life in a village is marked by its simplicity. There is no pomp and show of the modern life. This simplicity can be noticed in every aspect of life. The people are moderate in their dress and food. Their modes of entertainment and transport are rather traditional. They are innocent and straight-forward. Their outlook of life is also traditional.

Agriculture is the main occupation of the people. Every one in a family has to do something in connection with farming. They get up early and go to fields. They plough the land, in most cases, with the help of oxen, do some spade work, and sow the seeds. They add manures and irrigate the fields. They have to remove grass and weeds from time to time. Then comes the reaping. For a farmer, his crops are like his children. He is constantly worried about their well-being. Much of the result of his efforts is dependent on the weather. Untimely rains or delayed rains can play havoc.

In a way, a farmer’s occupation is one of the most sacred ones. He struggles hard with the soil for the whole day, whether it is rain or shine, and produces food grains for himself and others. He sweats out to feed the world.

Agriculture cannot be termed as a lucrative profession. If the season fails, the farmer suffers great losses. There are also exploitation at various levels. So small farmers are not very rich. They struggle to make both ends meet. Most of his wishes are delayed indefinitely for fulfilment.

A village has a well-knit society. The joys and sorrows of a person or a family are shared by the whole society. This society upholds high moral standards. Therefore, criminal activities are comparatively less in villages. The village elders are respected and obeyed. They ensure that there is peace in the society. The environment: There is no dispute that the environment in villages is ideal for living. The air is fresh, and the nature is unviolated. We get fresh water and food in villages. These factors are very good for health. There we come very close to nature. The tranquil atmosphere in villages brings peace and happiness to our minds. A healthy body and a healthy mind will certainly make us contented.

The villages have their own culture. They celebrate various festivals. Singing and dancing form a part of most of the festivals. The village life is thus full of pleasures.

Illiteracy is prevalent in villages. Lack of education creates many problems. There are many superstitions popular in villages. Lack of education only helps to promote them. The villagers are exploited by many unscrupulous elements. Without education, they cannot realize their rights to resist these exploitations. Health consciousness can also be created only through education.

The progress of our country depends upon the progress of our villages.
